Andy's superstar

Ever since I learned of Edie Sedgwick I've been fascinated with her. She is such a style inspiration to me with her close crop hair, signature black tights and chandelier earrings. I guess I must be drawn to tragic characters though because I'm in the middle of reading her biography Edie American Girl and I can hardly put the thing down. For those who aren't familiar with her she was best known as one of Andy Warhol's muses in the 60's but she was also an artist, actress, model, socialite, and heiress. Vogue magazine named her a youthquaker. All those titles made it seem like she had a pretty grand life but I've learned that a lot of the time it was completely the opposite. Even from the very start she had to endure things that no one should. A quote on the back of the book said it best. " The Pop Art world of the 60's: the sex, drugs, fashion, music- the mad rush for pleasure and fame. All glitter and flash on the outside, it was hollow and desperate within- like Edie herself, and like her mentor Andy Warhol."

Oh that? yea it runs in the family

Ever since I was allowed to dress myself I've been obsessed with fashion. Only until recently I realized that maybe I wasn't the only one in my family with that same passion. I was going through some boxes of pictures and came across several photos of my parents when they were around my age. Every dress my mom had on I could see myself wearing. My dad was dressed so sharp and everything was tailored impeccably. I asked my mom about what she use to wear when she was my age. I figured we definitely could have shared a closet!! When she was explaining all her outfits, and things she use to own you could just sense her excitement. To her clothes weren't just something you had to wear, they were a form of expression. When my mom first met my dad he was working at a men's suit shop, where he was one of the top sales men. He could put together a complete look in a matter of minutes without hesitation. I never even thought to ask them about this when I was growing up, but now I'm kinda glad I did. It gave me an insight as to why maybe I am the way I am when it comes to fashion.

Everything thats cold and gray has gone.....almost

Even though it was raining nonstop the other day in Albany, I couldn't help but become excited for spring. If I remember correctly it was around 50 degrees, and that lil tease of warmth instantly made me think of my spring wardrobe. I had a little time after dinner tonight so I hopped on style.com and checked out some of the Spring 2010 ready to wear collections. I was instantly inspired. A lot of the collections showed metallics, sheers, military, lingerie as outer wear, sports wear, prints, ruffles and of course going strong into another season my beloved strong shoulders. Sad as it is my wallet simply won't allow me to purchase pieces from collections such Alexander Wang, Balmain, Gareth Pugh, Lanvin, or Yves Saint Laurent. I have from now till March 20th (the first day of spring) to get creative and get my spring wardrobe in gear!! I'm curious to know what are some things you guys can't wait to wear this spring?
