Men VS. Women

I received a comment the other day which prompted me to write this post. I was told that the way I dress,(apparently not like everyone else in Upstate NY) drops me down a couple of points because I can come across intimidating to men. Has it really come down to the fact that if you're an individual doing your own thing that's automatically a negative? I've realized that I'll always be that girl that dresses for myself, and also for some girls that can relate to my style choices. I also know that certain things I wear guys will never understand or get.. but it's what makes me happy and comfortable. I brought up this topic to a couple girlfriends of mine, and they agreed. When it comes to getting dressed their attire does change depending on their audience. The overall theme was; when it comes to getting together with the girls, most feel more confident to wear whatever they feel without fear of judgement. When hanging out with men,they said they wouldn't wear some quirky/crazy out in fear of being the focus of a joke. In my experience when guys didn't get why I would wear a particular item of clothing, they would automatically crack a joke. It never hurt my feelings because I'm confident in my choices, but its a shame to me that some girls "dumb down" their style or play it safe. I would like to make it crystal clear that I'm not trying to be a man hater here by any means. I'm just speaking from my own personal experience. I'm not a style expert, nor do I claim to be. I would love for you guys to leave me some feed back on this topic. Agree...disagree, however you feel I really wanna hear it! 

*P.S...I realized I haven't shared this awesome news with you guys yet!...I started interning with my FAVORITE boutique around. It's called Some Girls, located in Troy, Ny.(They also have another location in Syracuse, Ny) The selection of items they carry is like nothing else around here. It's edited beautifully, and its refreshing to not have to dig and dig through a million clothing racks. It's always my go-to spot when I want something fabulous, and unique. I brought this topic up with Margaret who runs both stores, and we decided it would be fun to show off some looks from my perspective for dressing for girls versus dressing for men.
                                                                         

I'd wear this out to lunch or out shopping with the girls. I decided to mix up patterns with the floral shorts, snake-skin print bag, and polka dot sweater. I wanted to create a look that was loose, and comfortable, yet stylish.

This is another look I'd wear hanging out with the girls as well. I wanted to create a layered look with visual texture. I chose a studded leather vest, with a silky snake-skin print top, a red leather woven belt, and some black jeggings to balance everything out. 

Dressing for the men, I though it'd be fun to amp up the sex appeal a bit. For me there's nothing more stunning then a dress with amazing detail on the back. This slate gray dress has beautifulll rouching detail towards the bottom half, and the racer-back zipper detail is extremely flattering. 

Lastly, dressing for the men as well, I chose an attention getter neon yellow tank-top pared with a figure hugging nauticual style skirt, aVery flashy Barbie logo necklace, and silver sequin beret.
